The American Patriot’s Almanac is from Thomas Nelson Publishers and very well written by William J. Bennett and John T.E. Cribb. I highly recommend this book because it will inspire you as you read about those who have done great things for our country. These daily readings are about great Americans, some well known and many just ordinary people, and the deeds they have done, that are not “ordinary.” There is an index in the back to help find a person or event easily, especially if you don’t know what date some thing occurred. From the introduction on, my appreciation of “Patriots” increased immensely.
The book is divided into daily events – a story about something that happened on that day in history and then a short list of other events that have happened on that same date, but different years. Many tell of our founding patriots, like the Pilgrims, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, and on up to more current ones like Todd Beamer and those on board Flight 93 on Sept 11, 2001 and the four Navy Seals in Afghanistan that were attacked on June 27, 2005. The stories will make you proud of our American Patriots.
I highly recommend this book for every high school student to help them learn and appreciate the heritage we have as Americans and to all of us who love this great country of ours.
