Cedar Waxwings visit my neighborhood only briefly, in my neighborhood, as they migrate. (Bohemian Waxwings haven’t visited my neighborhood during the 17 years we have lived here, so far as I have seen — however, we do get to see congregations of their Cedar Waxwing cousins, sometimes.) If I’m not paying attention, however, I must wait till the next migration cycle, so I try to watch when it gets near migration time. (This seems odd because Cedar Waxwings over-winter in Texas, but apparently not in my neighborhood.) When they do visit, it’s a huge crowd (i.e., dozens), perching in my tree branches and resting on my bushes, often eating berries. A flock of hungry waxwings is a happy sight to see — if I am privileged enough to be watching when that time comes around.
