We had the priviledge of volunteering at the Avon Park Air Force Range for about 4 months back in 2004. We stayed on the range in our RV, so had many opportunities to observe birds and other wildlife. The park naturalist became a friend and she helped me with birdwatching. We also participated in the Christmas Bird Count that year. It is a huge area. It is about 17 miles from the front gate to the Kissimmee River. Birdwatching Adventures at the Avon Park AFR:
