Not only do great blue herons (sometimes) take a chance, getting too close to the “business end” of a Florida alligator, consider the fateful folly that befell a now-deceased serial burglar (Matthew Riggins), when he hid near an alligator in Barefoot Bay late last month, in an attempt to hide form law enforcement officers. (See http://www.floridatoday.com/story/news/2015/12/07/alligator-kills-barefoot-bay-burglary-suspect/76950238/ .) Guess that gives a new illustration to the old phrase “taking a bite out of crime”.

What an unfortunate event. I remember hearing about it when it happened.

Maybe the Gator is off to Gator school and has his fresh Heron lunch in his backpack for later.
