And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! (Matthew 27:29 KJV)

  1. It is noteworthy that the Lord worn THORNS in His crown, as He voluntarily accepted the wages-of-sin-is-death punishment that was due us, for our sins. THORNS were an immediate indicator that the once-perfect Earth was fallen, due to Adam’s sinful failure in Eden: “And unto Adam He said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it, all the days of thy life; THORNS also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field.” (Genesis 3:17-18) — in other words, with His crown of thorns the Lord Jesus was wearing the very proof that we belong to Adam’s fallen race, in need of Christ’s redemptive solution to our otherwise hopeless situation. Hallelujah! What a Savior!
