AND BROUGHT QUAIL
***
“And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day’s journey on this side, and as it were a day’s journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.” (Numbers 11:31 KJV)

Enjoyed this one, Lee — thanks! On October 29th (last month) I saw some quail-like birds slowly walking (1 adult and 3 or 4 juveniles) around and near some bushes in Bosque County, Texas — near Cranfills Gap, in part of what’s called the Texas Hill Country. They looked somewhat like prairie chickens or quails — but they looked almost identical to your photo in this blogpost, so I’m now assuming that they were some kind of quail. Quail/partridge-like ground fowl are especially interesting to me, because they are so vulnerable to predators, yet many of them survive well enough — as is noted by King David, in the Old Testament, as noted in this blogsite’s post “Rock Partridges: Lessons about Hunting and Hatching”, https://leesbird.com/2014/07/17/rock-partridges-lessons-about-hunting-and-hatching .)

Thanks, Dr. Jim. These are hard to find birds, but apparently, there was plenty of these. 2 cubits high worth of them would be quite easy to see.
