Yesterday we went back over to Gatorland to see how the chicks have been progressing. Here is a video of a parent feeding the growing chicks. I felt so sorry for her (I assume). It was an unexpected visit, because another plan for the day, of Dan’s, fell through. So, we decided to see how much the birds had grown since our visit in March. Needless to say, this should be the last on until fall. It was a BIT warm.

I still have articles and photos to show from our March visit, but an issue with my eye slowed me down. All is well now after a small laser treatment last week. My camera eye was blurry, but now all is clear again. So, stayed tuned as I try to get more tales out.

I guess because of my eye problem, I was so worried when one of the youngsters grabbed her beak and got mighty close to the eye. Because eyes are mentioned so many times in Scripture, here are a few promises:

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.” (Psalms 32:8 NKJV)

“Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, On those who hope in His mercy,” (Psalms 33:18 NKJV)

“The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.” (Psalms 34:15 KJV)

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, (Ephesians 1:18 NASB)

For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. (Matthew 13:15-16 KJV)

After our devotions, Dan and I read from a book. Currently we are reading from Ray Pritchard’s Beyond All You Could Ask Or Think. In talking about prayer, (p78+):

“The heart has eyes. Did you know that? When Paul speaks of “your heart,” he’s not referring to the organ in your chest that pumps blood throughout your body. The term “heart” refers to “the real you,” the place inside where the decisions of life are made.”

He goes on to say that all important decisions are decided in your heart. The question then comes to whether your “eyes” are open or closed to God’s truth. When we explain something about God’s Word and the truth found there, the person listening will either understand or not, depending on whether the “eyes of their heart” are open or closed.

He then goes on to encourage us to pray for us and others to keep our eyes and theirs “open” and on the Lord. (My paraphrase)

So what does this have to do with birdwatching? I enjoy watching birds and many times they have their eyes closed, half-closed or open. If you have followed this blog very long, you also know I like to use e-Sword to help search through the Bible. I know that birds and eyes are mentioned somewhere. Let’s go see what we can find!

“That path no bird knows, Nor has the falcon’s eye seen it. (Job 28:7 NKJV)

“”From where then does wisdom come? And where is the place of understanding? It is hidden from the eyes of all living, And concealed from the birds of the air. (Job 28:20-21 NKJV)

Those verse don’t apply except that we know that wisdom and knowledge are concealed from the birds. The Lord just gave them a built in instinct to do as He created. They do not need to get out a Bible and study to learn.

It is amazing how many verses have “eyes” and “heart” mentioned in the same verse. Enjoy searching for them.

As many of you know I have just gone through eye surgery this last Thursday. (Prayer for Eye Surgery) Today, Monday, I am getting clearer vision daily, but my activities are still limited. I was able to attend church last evening and even went out afterwards with our friends. The Doctor said it was “his easiest surgery of the day and every thing went just like it should.” (I was his last patient) also told me I was his “best patient of the day.” When he walk out I told the nurses that were with me that he probably tell all his patients that. They told me that they had never heard him say that to anyone.

I told you all of that to thank you for your prayers for my Doctor and for my nervousness. Both were answered mightily. The Lord helped direct his hand and since I had to be awake, helped me stay still. They can’t put you out because you must have your eyes open. My eye was numbed, but I saw part of what was going on.

Well, guess where my mind went yesterday? I started wondering how many times “eye” and some “bird” showed up in the same verse. With enlarged type, my search found around 20 verses. Some of my upcoming Birds of the Bible blogs will investigate these verses. In fact, some have already been written. (These are just a few of them)

Ian Juby has made another “Rant.”  This one is about evolutionist’s claim about how the eye is poorly designed and that there is no intelligent designer that made it. He does these spoofs because of some of the unintelligent remarks made by evolutionists.

He, like those of us here, believe that we have a very Intelligent Designer called the Creator. We believe the Lord Jesus is this creator. The birds we write about sure enjoy their Intelligently Designed eyes.

We generally associate eyes with our brain because they are two closely working parts of our nervous system. Our brain is necessary to interpret what our eyes see. However, the brittlestar, a relative of the starfish, has thousands of eyes and no brain.

The brittlestar’s body is covered with a pliable crystalline material. Inserted in this material are literally thousands of perfectly shaped lenses that collect light. Each of these lenses is about half the diameter of a human hair.

Researchers commented that these lenses are much finer than anything we can engineer. Studies show that all of these lenses work together to act as one giant eye. They seem to work rather like the compound eye of the fly. The lenses focus incoming light on photoreceptors.

Researchers believe that this arrangement allows the brittlestar to form a rough image of its surroundings and tell what time of day it is. If the light becomes too bright, the brittlestar can darken its skin, in effect, putting on sunglasses. Even more amazing is that the brittlestar does all of this, despite the fact that it doesn’t have a brain! As one researcher put it, “This is very clever engineering.”

The wonders that have come from God’s creative hand can lead even evolutionists to use the language of creation. Yet, God’s greatest wonder is His plan for our salvation.

Birds of the Bible – Dove’s Eyes and Voice

Here are some interesting thoughts about the Eyes and Voice of a Dove. We had an Eurasian Collared Dove land in our yard today. What a lovely bird, with such a soft color. I always enjoy watching them.

The Eyes of A Dove:

How beautiful you are, my darling, How beautiful you are! Your eyes are like doves.” (Song of Solomon 1:15 NASB)

Solomon is describing his love with terms that today we do not hear in that connection. How romantic to have your eyes compared to a dove’s eyes. At first it seems rather weird, but when you know what dove’s eyes actually look like, you realize that they ARE very beautiful.

Then she describes Solomon.

“His eyes are like doves Beside streams of water, Bathed in milk, And reposed in their setting. (Song of Solomon 5:12 NASB)

John Gill’s Exposition of the Whole Bible says of this verse, referring to the meekness of Christ:
“his eyes are like “doves’ eyes”; not fierce and furious, but loving and lovely; looking upon his people, under all their trials and afflictions, with sympathy and concern, to deliver them out of them: and like the eyes of doves. ”

The Voice of A Dove:
Then in chapter 2, Solomon goes on to use the dove again to describe her voice.

“Come, my shy and modest dove– leave your seclusion, come out in the open. Let me see your face, let me hear your voice. For your voice is soothing and your face is ravishing.” (Song of Solomon 2:14 MSG)

“It is fixed: She is stripped, she is carried away, And her handmaids are moaning like the sound of doves, Beating on their breasts.” (Nahum 2:7 NASB)

John Gill’s Exposition of the Whole Bible says, “as with the voice of doves, tabering upon their breasts; mourning like doves, inwardly and secretly, not daring to express their sorrow more publicly, because of their enemies; but knocking and beating upon their breasts, as men do upon tabrets or drums, thereby expressing the inward grief of their minds; see Eze_7:16.”
